Vastu shastra is an ancient branch of science that deals with construction. It takes into account the laws of nature and its impact on human dwellings, promising good health, wealth, prosperity and contentment. The designs made for construction that are in accordance of Vastu Shastra are based on directional alignments. The doctrine of Vastu Shastra is concerned primarily with architecture - building houses, forts, temples, apartments and other buildings.

1. Choose a regular shaped plot such as square or rectangle. Irregular shape plot can have bad impact on occupants.
2. Vastu Shastra suggests digging a well in North-east prior to the construction.
3. Considerable space should be left open in the North and the East directions and less towards the South and West directions.
4. Open space at South-East and North-West should be equal.
5. Planting trees in the North-East corner must be avoided.
6. More windows must be given towards East and North.
7. Avoid doors in straight line.
8. The Western side of the plot must be elevated than the Eastern side and the Southern side must be elevated than Northern side.
9. Construction must be started from the North-East side of the plot and from there move forward to East, North and finally South and West.
10. The erection of pillars also should start from the North-East direction.
